Rolph, Urcil Elwood “Woody” was born in Lewis County, Kentucky to the late Joseph and Katherine Lula Layne Rolph on December 24, 1940. Woody was preceded in death by his mother Lula just before his 5th birthday in December of 1945. Woody attended Springfield City Schools. He graduated in 1958 from Springfield High School and later attended Moorehead College in Kentucky. Woody, as he was affectionately known, joined the United States Navy at age 18. He was proud of his four years on two destroyers, the Mullinex and the Dupont. He had many good memories of his years in the NAVY and loved talking about the many countries that he visited during his tour of duty. He was involved in the Cuban Crisis and the Bay of Pigs and received numerous metals. He retired from Navistar International after 38 years of service, where he was a supervisor. After his retirement he worked for Champaign County Transit for 15 years. WOODY started taking piano lessons at age 82. He was preceded in death by his father, Reverend Joseph (Lillian Massie) Rolph; wife of 49 years, Barbara Elliott Rolph; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Esther Elliott; sister, Genevieve George and brother-in-law, Steve Fisher. He is survived by his fiancé and best friend, Judith “Judy” Slagle Entler and her sons Chris (Jessica) Jeff (Rena') and grandchildren Drake, Logan, Sophie Wren and Zach; sister, Marilyn Fisher; brothers-in-law, Bruce George and Robert Elliott; aunts, Juanita Seitz and Jane (John) Brown and uncle, Jack (Eleanor) White. Woody was a generous Christian man of great faith and attended the First Church of Christ in Christian Union in Springfield with Judy for the last ten years. Woody was a member of the Masons Saint Andrews Lodge 1219, Amvets Post 25, The Union Club, VFW Post 1031, Urbana Moose Lodge 1215, The American Legion and the Eagles Champion Aerie 397, where he had been treasurer and was currently serving as a trustee. Woody enjoyed playing pinochle at the Senior Center, playing bingo and bargo. Woody loved parties, especially the July 4th parties that he and Judy hosted at their home the last nine years. Woody will be missed by all his many friends, cousins and loved ones. Everyone LOVED WOODY!!! Thank you to all the family and friends who visited and brought food. His funeral service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Thursday in CONROY FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Bruce Sigman officiating. Visitation will be held one and a half hours prior, beginning at 3:30 p.m. A graveside service and military honors will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday in Bethel Cemetery, Piketon, Ohio.
