THOMPSON, Ronald H., 90, of Springfield, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2024 in Springfield Regional Medical Center.  He was born November 4, 1933 in Springfield, son of Walter H. and Dorothy (Ost) Thompson.

He was raised in a devout Catholic family and remained a God-fearing man his entire life. He met the love of his life, Shirley, a beautiful young lady from Castleberry, Alabama, at a dance held at the YMCA. They spent the next 68 years side by side in a loving marriage.

Ronald was a man of many passions, finding joy in the simple pleasures of life. He could often be found with a fishing rod in hand, casting lines and creating lasting memories by the water's edge. His green thumb was evident in the beautiful tomato gardens and impeccable lawn he nurtured, a testament to his patience and dedication to nature's beauty.

He was a professional, “Do It Yourself-er,” relying on his favorite glue, gorilla, and his favorite tape, duct.

A master of patience and perseverance, he found solace in the intricate world of puzzles and solitaire. Whether alone or with loved ones, he would spend hours meticulously piecing together each puzzle, relishing in the satisfaction of completing a challenging task.

Beyond his hobbies, his greatest joy was found in the company of his family. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a doting grandfather, and a proud great-grandfather. His warmth, wisdom, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Ronald Thompson's legacy of love and laughter will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. Though he may be gone, his spirit will continue to shine bright, guiding those he loved with fond memories and everlasting love.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley (Worrell); two children, Theresa Giannattasio, Savannah, GA and Mark & Lisa Thompson, Destin, FL; seven grandchildren, Nicole, Aaron, Ryan, Kyle, Christian, Graves and Sam; one great grandson, Beckett; two siblings, Mary Ellen Weeks and Jerry Thompson and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Palmer.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jimmy Thompson.  A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
