Roller, Robert L., 88, died peacefully on March 12, 2013 at 3:15 a.m. following a short illness. He was born in Springfield on July 25, 1924 to Mary Katherine (Doyle) and Harold R. Roller. A 1942 graduate of Springfield High School, he served in the United States Marine Corps during WWII and was the recipient of two Purple Hearts for his service in the South Pacific. Upon his return, he first joined the Springfield Police Division, before beginning a long career in the construction industry starting with the former Six Industries in Springfield then as an estimating manager in both Milwaukee and southern California. He returned to Springfield with his wife, the former Barbara Steiner to reside at the Oakwood Village Cottages. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Richard Roller, and brothers-in-law, Don DeWine, Paul Scanlan and Richard McNeil. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara; daughter, Jill and husband Paul Squire; sisters, Joanne DeWine, Marilyn and husband Denny Kelly and Carol McNeil; sister-in-law, Shirley Roller; brother-in-law and wife Jerry and Danise Steiner and numerous loving nieces and nephews including one very special nephew, Benjamin "CatBird" Smith. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in St. Teresa Church. Private burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations (if desired) may be made to St. Teresa Church, Second Harvest Food Bank or Honor Flight. Arrangements handled by CONROY FUNERAL HOME.
