Maureen Alig

ALIG, Maureen Doris, 91, of Donnelsville, went to be with our Lord on July 20, 2026. She was born on September 22, 1934, in Brooklyn, NY to Thomas and Irene (Doran) Byrnes. In high school, she was involved in the Gaelic Society, Choral group and Irish dancing. She served our country for eleven years in the United States Navy as a Second-Class Petty Officer. While there, she met her husband George of 57 years at Andrews AFB. She retired from the City of Springfield after 26 years and spent her days playing bingo, listening to Irish music, volunteering at Dayton Children’s Hospital, lecturing at St. Raphael Catholic Church and acting in plays for the Summer Arts Festival. In her later years she was well cared for by her oldest daughter, Theresa. She had a great sense of humor and was a patient and loving mother to her surviving seven children; Theresa Alig of Donnelsville, OH, Marilyn (Steve) Riley of Springfield, OH, Dianne Alig of Cincinnati, OH, Anne (Stephen) Chirico of Peachtree City, GA, Amy Alig of Cincinnati, OH, Elizabeth Alig (Jeff Gilg) of Columbus, OH and George (Gina) Alig of Union, OH. Her eight grandchildren called her the cool grandma for her humor and fun and easy-going personality. Her grandchildren include Stephen (Esther) Chirico Jr., Joshua (Janda) Koepnick, Alan Koepnick, Amber Koepnick (Daniel Edelsberg), Aidan Riley and Gabriella Alig. She is also survived by three brothers, Thomas, Donald and James Byrnes; 15 great-grandchildren and son-in-law and friend, John Koepnick who looked in on her and helped her often. She is preceded in death by her husband, George, her parents, three sisters, two brothers and two grandchildren, Benjamin Alig and Madeline Chirico. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Tuesday in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am in St. Raphael Catholic Church. Entombment will take place at Rose Hill Burial Park. She requested that instead of wearing black, please wear colorful attire.
