Mary Michelle "Mickey" Groeber

“We are all just walking each other home”

On the evening of May 11, 2026 at 19:51 (in a nod to her many friends and colleagues in health care), Mary Michelle “Mickey” Groeber concluded the earthly portion of her journey but since the life of the dead is placed in the memory of the living, she will never be far from the hearts or minds of those fortunate enough to share some part of that journey. The depth and breadth of Mickey’s accomplishments can be easily measured in the numerous lives she touched in her personal and professional life. Beyond a lifetime of service as a registered nurse and tireless advocate for her patients, Mickey was actively involved in a number of volunteer groups that reflected her passion for unwanted pets, nature and the physical and spiritual well-being of those who inhabited her world. This fact remained unknown by many of those who knew her, which was, for Mickey, exactly how she planned it. For her, the work, not the accolades, measured what she gained from each experience.

Preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Julietta Groeber, an unbroken chain of rescue cats and dogs, as well as a pair of cousins, Suzanne Groeber and Carol Sue Youker, Mickey leaves behind one sister, Joan Frances, first cousins, Michael Groeber, Helen Pierson, Kathy Groeber, Peggy Groeber, and Janet Groeber, (Team Groeber 4-Ever) a number of colleagues, notably lifelong friends, Renee Marsh, Eileen Bremer, and Lisa Fent, and the surviving four furry feline members of the Groeber family. Mickey’s capacity for love and compassion was limitless and each of these people knew how very much she valued their presence in her life.

There will be a celebration of Mickey’s life on Friday, May 22 at 1:00pm in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME. A visitation will be held 2 hours prior, beginning at 11am. If you wish to honor Mickey’s memory with a donation, she would have encouraged you to choose a cause that you truly believe in as Mickey valued the importance of individuals choices in life. If you decide that flowers or plants might be your way to honor her passing, consider a perennial plant that could ultimately be planted and live on in the way that her legacy will remain forever with us.

In the days since her passing, people have shared “Mickey” stories centered on how she had a lasting effect on their lives. For Mickey, the presence of each and every one of the people whom she encountered shaped her into the person so many knew and loved. Rest easy, Mickey. You have fought the good fight and finished the race. You have kept the faith.

From a grateful sister
