Margaret A. Dunn

Dunn, Margaret A. “Barda”, 95, of Springfield, passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at Wooded Glen. Barda was born on March 6, 1930 in South St. Paul, Minnesota, the daughter of Allan E. and Kathleen V. (Harrington) Burt. She was a long-time member of St. Teresa Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic minister and a lector for many years. She was a devout and faithful Catholic.

Barda lived a rich, full life. After graduating from St. Catherine University in St. Paul, she began teaching elementary school in Northern Minnesota. After teaching for a few years, a close friend who was a flight attendant for Capital Airlines told her that the airline was looking for flight attendants in the Washington D.C. area. Barda applied, was offered the job, moved to Washington, and took to the skies. In Washington she met her husband, Ed, who was attending Georgetown Law School. They fell in love and were married in South St. Paul on September 25, 1954. Ed practiced law briefly in St. Paul before the family moved to Springfield, Ed’s hometown, where Ed started a long and distinguished law career and Barda stayed home and reared their four young children.

Over the years in Springfield, Barda was very active in women’s issues, including the League of Women Voters, Planned Parenthood, and the Breast Cancer Center at Mercy Hospital. Barda was a champion for women’s issues, never failing to speak her mind on that topic (or others). One always knew where they stood with Barda.

Ed and Barda enjoyed 64 years together. They were a model of Christian marriage. They fully enjoyed their lives in Springfield and also in Siesta Key, FL. In both places they developed close and lasting friendships.

Survivors include three children, Joseph (Elizabeth) Dunn, Michael (Mary) Dunn and James (Yon) Dunn; six grandchildren, Patrick, Michael, Kelly, Matthew, Luke and Maggie; son-in-law, Paul (Diane) Flechler; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward in 2018; her beloved daughter, Kathleen Flechler in 2018; and her brother, James Burt in 2021. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Teresa Catholic Church at a later date.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Wooded Glen for their compassionate care of Barda over the last seven years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Breast Cancer Endowment Fund of Clark County, Inc., P.O. Box 2852, Springfield, OH 45501. Arrangements by CONROY FUNERAL HOME.
