Joseph C. Messina

MESSINA, Joseph C., 69, of Springfield, passed away June 27, 2026, in Northwood Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation after a long battle with dementia. He was born September 16, 1956, in Sharon, PA, the son of the late Vincent and Shirley (Hopkins) Messina. Joe worked in the restaurant business starting as a dishwasher in Hickory, PA rising to a General Manager for Perkins Restaurant for many years and later for Bob Evans. When he retired, he took a position as a grill cook at Stinger at Cedarville University. Joe loved peanut butter. Every year at Stingers the manager, Donna Fifer and students brought him in anything with peanut butter. Joe was overwhelmed by how much he was loved by everyone. His favorite baseball team was the St. Louis Cardinals. He also enjoyed bowling in his younger years. Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Mary Anne (Sinkuc); four children, Joseph Messina, John Messina, Theresa & Mike Ratliff and Jeremy & Jessica Messina; six grandchildren, Tamyelle Lamb, Desmond and Charles Ratliff and Rowan, Ezra and Carleigh Messina; siblings, Vincent & Renee Messina, Patricia Sinkuc, Kenneth & Cherie Messina, Dennis Messina, Michael & Patti Messina, David & Tammy Messina and Jeanine & Guy Shearrer and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held in September.
