John Edward Thornton

Thornton, John Edward, 87, of Springfield, passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at Hospice of Dayton. John was born April 8, 1939, in Columbus, Ohio, the son of Thomas W. and Gladys (Collier) Thornton. He was a machinist for over 40 years, and enjoyed travelling, golfing, and playing cards with his wife. He was also a member of the Union Club and the Eagles #397. He is survived by one son, John L. (Lisa) Thornton; two grandchildren, Chase and Zane; and nephew, Jim (Carolyn) Huggins, and family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; and three siblings.
