John R. "Dick" Linkenhoker

LINKENHOKER, John Richard "Dick", 88, of Springfield, passed peacefully in the hospice center of the Springfield Regional Medical Center on Sunday, October 20 after a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Springfield on May 18, 1925, to the late Frances (Doster) and Aloysius Linkenhoker. John married Barbara Ann Marous on March 31, 1950. A graduate of Catholic Central High School, John served in the South Pacific as a Seabee during World War II assigned to Naval Construction Unit 543. After his discharge he returned to Springfield and worked for the engineering division of International Harvester for 30 years. John was an avid gardener and an unbeatable cribbage player. He was a member of St. Bernard's Parish, the VFW, the Flying Dutch, and the Union Club. John is survived by Barbara, his wife of 64 years; six children and their spouses, Karen (Cordell) Coy of Villa Hills, KY, Linda (Dale) Leach of Plano, TX, Patricia (Adelbert) Robeson of Westerville, John (Deborah) Linkenhoker of Bellevue, Mary Beth (Joseph) Taylor of Donnelsville, and Janet Linkenhoker of Springfield; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Richard Darr and staff. The visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 from 5:30 to 7:30 P.M. in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. in St. Bernard Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Community Mercy Foundation or the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
