Loney, John R., 72 of Springfield, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2026. He was born in Springfield on August 17, 1953, the son of Eugene and Helen (Dadich) Loney. John attended St. Joseph, Catholic Central High School and Sacred Heart Seminary. He also attended the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy. At the age of 18 he was appointed the youngest Deputy in the state of Ohio to the Clark County Sheriff’s Department. He started the safety town program of Clark County along with the Clark County Farm Bureau. John retired as a Lieutenant after many years of service. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his many rescued pets. He loved going out to dinner with his family and many friends. John was known for his love of ice cream. He never knew a stranger and was always ready to talk. He was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, Elks, Eagles, Union Club, Machinist Club, Clark County Sheriff’s Office Lodge 209, Springfield F.O.P. Lodge 72 and Anthony Lodge 455. Survivors include his wife, Donna M. (Lucas); two children, John (Amanda) Loney and Jill Loney; two grandsons, Jacob and Caleb; brother, Tom (Ming) Loney and many cousins, nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his daughter, Colleen Marie Loney; parents and two brothers, Dan Loney and Carl Loney. The family would like to give a sincere thank you to Pathways/Woodside of the Springfield Masonic Community and Affinity Hospice for their excellent care and compassion. He loved them all dearly. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 3rd at CONROY FUNERAL HOME. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4th at St. Bernard Church. Inurnment will be held in Ferncliff Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Affinity Hospice, Barely Used Pets of Urbana and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office Lodge 209.
