Phoenix

Hatcher, Janet Anne passed away peacefully on April 14, 2026, in Phoenix, Arizona. She was born to George W. and Thelma B. (Ankrom) Scurlock, on June 30th, 1936, in Springfield, Ohio. She was raised with values of compassion, perseverance, hard work, and laughter, that would guide her throughout her life. She carried those gifts into every role she held, whether it was mother, teacher, or friend. For more than 30 years, Janet was a beloved first grade teacher at Warder Park/Anthony Wayne in Springfield, Ohio. She loved her first graders and had a remarkable gift for helping them discover the joy of learning, reading and the confidence to believe in themselves. She left an enduring mark on their lives, their families and the Springfield community. She was responsible for generations of people who love to read to this day. Janet's interests and talents reached far beyond the classroom. She was an accomplished painter whose creativity brought beauty into the lives of her friends on whose walls hang her works. She was also a gifted pianist who found joy in playing and was instrumental in bringing that joy to her daughter who carried it with her throughout her life. A true adventurer at heart, Janet loved to travel and embraced every opportunity to explore the world. Whether traveling with close friends or members of her church, she found happiness in new experiences, interesting people, history and beautiful landscapes. She is survived by her daughter, Melissa LaManna of Phoenix. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched as a teacher, friend, traveler, artist and mother. Though she will be deeply missed, the lessons she taught, her laughter she shared and her ability to persevere will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30 in CONROY FUNERAL HOME. Visitation will be held one hour prior, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment will be in Ferncliff Cemetery next to her husband, William “Fred” Hatcher.
