WIEGEL, Hugh E. “Hughie”, Jr., 75, of Springfield, passed away May 2, 2025 in Springfield Regional Medical Center. He was born October 18, 1949 in Springfield, Ohio the son of the late Hugh E. and Grace (Gorsuch) Wiegel, Sr. He was a 1967 graduate of Catholic Central High School and later attended Xavier University before enlisting in the US Marine Corp Reserves. He retired from the United States Post Office after many years. He was an avid golfer, fisherman and sports fanatic, especially the Kentucky Derby, Ohio State football, Bengals and Reds. Hughie had a heart of gold and was very well liked by all who knew him. He would do anything for anyone without hesitation. He will be missed by all who knew him, especially his “Mug” family. He is survived by his longtime girlfriend of 16 years, Melody Oakley; two sisters, Leslie & Sam DiCarlo and Libby Wiegel, both of Columbus; six nieces; four great nephews; three great nieces; a special “step-daughter” and two special “step-grandchildren”. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and nurses in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit at Springfield Regional for their wonderful care. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME. A memorial service will follow at 1:00 pm in the funeral home.
