GEORGE SANFORD, 87, of Springfield, Ohio.
On the afternoon of October 23, 2026 our beloved George peacefully left us to find the protective arms of our Heavenly Father after a well fought and long battle against Parkinson’s Disease.
From his first breath to his last heartbeat, he lived a life of hard work, resilience and the willingness to help those in need. He unconditionally loved so many, whether as a devoted son, father, brother, husband, grandfather, uncle, cousin or friend.
He graduated from Southeastern High School where he excelled in many sports, most notably football and track. Even in his early eighties he did his best to stay physically fit. He was an avid hunter and into his late 70s, he took great pride in being able to outlast his younger peers in sub-zero temperatures during deer season and flattening the arms of family members enduring arm wrestling matches during holiday gatherings. The stories of “George Sanford” can be heard from many throughout the Clark County area.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Nancy, his parents Emmett and Emma Sanford, sisters Rose Depp and Emma Dungey and several other family members and close friends who were surely there to greet him when he arrived healthy, happy and pain free at Heaven’s doors.
His legacy and memory will live on by those he left behind to include his two sons, J.D. and Jeremiah; foster son, William Depp; his devoted and loving daughter, Lenise; son-in-law, Larry; brother, Harry Sanford; nine beautiful grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, and several lifelong relationships with close friends.
George’s life will be celebrated with a visitation on October 29th in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME, located at 1600 East High Street, Springfield, Ohio. The family will receive visitors from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed immediately by the funeral service for anyone who would like to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations made in George’s honor to Hospice of Otterbein in Lebanon, OH, or The Parkinson's Foundation.
