Daniel F. Hopper

Hopper, Daniel Frederick “Dan”, 79, of Springfield, passed away Thursday, August 27, 2026, in his home surrounded by family. Dan was born January 7, 1947, in Springfield, Ohio, the son of Dan Eugene and Marxine Jane (Wertz) Hopper. He was a veteran of the United States Army, 82nd Airborne Division as a Paratrooper, retired from Wright Patterson Air Force Base and was a member of St. Joseph Church. He was an avid golfer, coached numerous youth soccer and softball teams, and was active in the Enon Girls Softball League and Greenon Athletic Boosters. More than anything, Dan loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren who knew him as “Pap.” Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Judy (England); two daughters, Bethany (Douglas) Kuypers and Meredith (Brian) Kurucz; five grandchildren, William (Aubrianna Phillips) Kuypers, Daniel (Marie Pozy) Kurucz, Charles (Anne McGraw) Kuypers, Grace Kurucz and Lily Kuypers; one sister, Victoria (Joseph Kleehammer) Hopper; numerous nieces and nephews, including special nephew, Glenn Hopper; and many cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a nephew and his wife, Matthew and Deputy Suzanne Hopper. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 1, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, September 2 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. Stephen Oehlers, who has always been the wind in our sails, and the amazing team at Ohio’s Hospice, especially Caroline, Erin, Jessica and Faith. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ohio’s Hospice (www.ohioshospice.org/foundation) or the Wounded Warrior Project (www.Wounded Warrior Project). Dan was truly one of a kind, had a unique sense of style, never knew a stranger, and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
