Dale Richard Lucas

Lucas, Dale Richard, 80, passed away on November 3, 2025 at his home surrounded by those he loved. Dale was born in Springfield April 7, 1945 the son of Harold and Mildred (McPherson) Lucas. He was a graduate of Tecumseh High School and attended Bowling Green University. Dale worked at Navistar for a short time, eventually forming his own company, Springview Nursery. He did residential and commercial landscaping for over 40 years. He was most proud of his participation in the Adopt-a-Garden program, where he volunteered his services to beautify Springfield. One of his greatest joys was working with and training his employees (usually students) whether they were making hay or landscaping. He followed most of their lives into adulthood and was so proud of their accomplishments. Dale and his life partner, Linda Himes, created Tall Oaks Farm, a beautiful oasis of floral and landscape features. They enjoyed hosting weddings, fundraisers, garden parties and other events for friends and family. He is survived by his partner of over 25 years, Linda Himes. Left to honor his memory are his daughters, Amy (Michael) Logue and Amanda (Ian) Barnwell; granddaughter, Allison Logue (Will) Davis; grandson, Austin Logue; sister, Linda (Michael) Goenner and several nieces and nephews. Dale was much beloved by Linda’s family and was very close to her sister, Lisa and brother, Chuck and his wife, Sally. He was also greatly loved by her children, Lance (Shannon) Himes and Susan (Eric) White and her grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Lucas. Dale did not know a stranger; he was kind and generous to all who knew him. Our hope is that his talents will be used in Heaven, as he spent his life on Earth making the world more beautiful. At Dale’s request, no formal funeral services will be observed. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. The family is being served by CONROY FUNERAL HOME.
