Catherine Lydia Herzog

Herzog, Catherine Lydia “Cathy”, 75, of Springfield, died September 14, 2025, at Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton. She was born February 3, 1950, to James Lincoln Herzog and Lydia Catherine (Phillips) Herzog. She was the first baby born at Mercy Hospital. Cathy graduated from St. Bernard Catholic School (1963) and Springfield Catholic Central High School (1968). She earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. From the University of Detroit she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education, a Master’s Degree in Theology, and a PhD in Clinical Psychology (1991). Cathy worked in a public school district in Michigan for 24 years. During that time, she worked tirelessly to provide educational opportunities, emotional support and crisis management for students and their families. To meet these needs, she wrote grants to organizations who responded with financial support.

This was a Valiant Woman.

Survivors include her dear friend, Mary Alice Cunningham; four brothers, Joseph Ira Herzog and his wife Debbie (Mattia), James Phillip Herzog, John Patrick Herzog and his wife Mary (Stover) Herzog, and Richard William Herzog and his wife Carla Henneman Herzog; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, one brother Robert Oliver Herzog, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 17 in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18 in St. Bernard Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Saint Vincent DePaul Society and/or the Alzheimer’s Association.
