Carolyn L. Barcelona

BARCELONA, Carolyn L. (Kitchen), 86, of Springfield, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 7, 2023 in Hearth and Home El Camino.  She was born July 25, 1936 in Springfield the daughter of Harold Mitchell and Mildred C. (McAfee) Kitchen.  Carolyn graduated Springfield High School in 1954, from City Hospital School of Nursing in 1957, and had worked as an RN at City Hospital for several years before moving to the office of Dr. Warren G. Elliott, DDS.  She retired form Dr. Elliott’s office in 1989.  Carolyn was a lifelong member of First Christian Church being baptized on April 3, 1949.  She was very active there in Vacation Bible School, as a Junior High Youth leader, in choirs, and the Women’s Ministry. Survivors include her husband, Roger J. Barcelona, who she married on June 20, 1959; two children, Kim L. Barcelona Burkett of Springfield and Robert J. Barcelona of Dayton Beach, Florida; two grandchildren, Ryan Joseph Barcelona of Wisconsin and Mitchell Joseph Burkett of Moundsville, West Virginia and many beloved cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents and mother and father-in-law, Joseph and Bernice Barcelona, special aunt and uncle, Edgar and Beatrice Pencil and cousins Janet Pencil Ray, Kathy Pencil Clark, and Lee “Butch” Pencil, Bill and Shirley Powell.  A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 pm on Thursday, May 18, 2023 in CONROY FUNERAL HOME with Joel Augustus officiating.  Visitation will be held one-hour prior from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.  Inurnment will follow in Ferncliff Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to First Christian Church. Heartfelt thanks to the staff at Hearth and Home El Camino and DayCity Hospice for the excellent care they took of our beloved wife, Mom, and Maw.
