Brenda Fett Cain

Brenda Fett Cain, 60, passed away unexpectedly on September 29, 2026, leaving behind family and countless friends who are struggling to imagine their lives without her.

Brenda was born on November 27, 1965, in Lima, Ohio, the daughter of Louis and Marilyn (Gratz) Fett. She graduated from Bath High School, and then went on to graduate from The Ohio State University. She spent her career as an occupational therapist, a profession she was proud of and dedicated to for many years.

Being a mom was at the center of who Brenda was. She had an extraordinary ability to make each of her children feel like they were her first priority, somehow being there for everyone at the same time. When her youngest daughter was battling cancer, she never left the hospital. She didn't need to be asked, she simply knew where she needed to be. She brought that same wholehearted love to being a grandmother. Her grandson was one of the greatest sources of joy in her life over the past year, and she treasured the day each week she spent with him. They shared a special bond, filled with singing, laughter, and the simple joy of being together. Being his grandma was a role she embraced with her whole heart.

Brenda was a friend in the truest sense of the word. She showed up. She was the person you could call, knowing she would be there, and she extended that same love to her friends’ children. She was fun, adventurous, and always up for making a memory. She also had a gift for making people feel cared for in the simplest ways, often showing up with something she had baked - most famously her chocolate chip cookies.

She and Jeff shared a true partnership and loved experiencing life together. They enjoyed trying new foods, going to concerts, and exploring new places. After Jeff’s retirement, they had just bought an RV and were looking forward to exploring the West Coast, hiking, and taking the trips they had dreamed about.

Just two weeks before her passing, Brenda was in Greece, jumping from the top level of a boat into the ocean. It was a perfect glimpse of the way she lived - adventurous, joyful, and fully engaged in life. There was still so much ahead of her: more places to explore, more hikes to take, more meals and concerts to enjoy with Jeff, and so many adventures they had just begun to imagine.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Philip J. “Jeff” Cain; four children, Addie (Scott) Vazquez, Sarah Cain, Jack Cain and Lily Cain; grandson, Louie Vazquez; two sisters, Barbara (Jeff) Niemeyer and Betsy (Jeff) Best; sisters-in-law, Diane Fett and Susan Sidner; aunt and uncle, Emily (Kent) Stonehill; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Robert Fett; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dr. Philip W. Cain and Patricia Cain; and brother-in-law, Patrick Cain.
