Arlette L. (Norvell) Crockett

CROCKETT, Arlette Lenore (Norvell), 87 of Millburn, New Jersey, passed away Friday, March 22, 2013 in Millburn, New Jersey. She was born October 18, 1925, in Washington, DC, in the home of her parents, Joseph M. and Daisy A. Norvell. Arlette L. Norvell graduated from Armstrong High School at the age of 21, with a major in home economics. She worked for several years as a millinerist, and was an accomplished seamstress, and cook. She will be remembered for her wry wit, penetrating observation, and persistence in overcoming many challenges. She was a dedicated and loving mother, who will be missed by those whose lives she touched. In 1948, Arlette Norvell married Albert Glenn Crockett, a graduate of Howard University, in Washington, DC, and a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. In 1954, Arlette and Albert Crockett moved to Springfield, Ohio, where he started his career as an electrical engineer at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. Arlette Norvell Crockett lived in Springfield Ohio forty-six years, before moving to Millburn, NJ to live with her daughter, in 2000. Her marriage ended in divorce. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Springfield, Ohio. In New Jersey, she attended Fountain Baptist Church in Summit, New Jersey. She is survived by five children, Mark A. Crockett, of Yellow Springs, Ohio; Leressa R. Crockett, of Millburn, New Jersey; Kenton J. Crockett of Springfield, Ohio; Norvell F. Crockett, of Quitman, Mississippi, and Harmon O. Crockett, of Las Vegas, Nevada. Her grandchildren include Rebecca Crockett Krankowski; Harmon Crockett; Lyssa Crockett, Justin Crockett; Sarah Crockett; Harmon O. Crockett, Jr. and Gabriel Crockett and four great grandchildren. Survivors also include a nephew Edward Harris, of Crofton, Maryland and niece Marchelle Harris, also of Maryland. She was predeceased by her ex-husband Albert G. in 2007, and her five siblings, including Joseph M. Norvell, Daisy Antoinette Norvell Taylor; Gladys Norvell Harris, William Norvell and Harmon O. Norvell. Visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday in Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. in the church with Pastor Darryl Grayson officiating. Burial will follow in Clifton Cemetery. The family is being served by CONROY FUNERAL HOME.
